Program Director

The Program Director will act as the principal of the Iowa Virtual School Program (IAVSP) and will be responsible for daily operations, personnel, expenditures, and any other area that affects IAVSP operations. The Program Director is also responsible for making all recommendations regarding policies and procedures. The Program Director reports to the Pocahontas Area Community School District's Board of Trustees and K12's Vice President of School Management, and meets regularly with the Board and/or its designee on planning, financial, instructional, and other matters.

The Program Director will have responsibilities in the following areas:

Logistics/Start-up
  • Oversee the application and enrollment processes
  • Advise on student placements
  • Assign students to teachers
  • Set up the IAVSP office (phone system, network, lease, etc.)
  • Understand and use all K12 systems
  • Enroll, withdraw, make course changes, update, and maintain basic student information in IAVSP's student information system
  • Help hire and train teachers and staff
  • Manage all staff HR issues
  • Organize and oversee staff orientations
  • Organize and oversee parent and student orientations
  • Organize and attend regional program events
Operations
  • Ensure that the academic and social programs of IAVSP meet the program's vision
  • Create an environment where meeting and supporting the needs of students, families, and staff is the central focus of the administration
  • Work with K12 to ensure that processes and communication between IAVSP and K12 are in place
  • Develop and implement IAVSP policies and oversee the writing of its handbooks
  • Work to ensure that all reporting requirements are met in an accurate and timely manner (including report cards and all district, state, and federal reports)
  • Ensure that IAVSP meets state curriculum and policy standards
  • Work with the Director of Special Education to ensure that the IAVSP is meeting the needs of its students and complying with local, state, and federal laws regarding special education
  • Ensure that student progress and logging of attendance hours and calendar days meet IAVSP and state requirements
  • Work with K12 to organize and deliver ongoing staff development (as per state requirements)
  • Oversee state and district testing logistics for IAVSP
  • Develop regular and effective communication channels with families
  • Pursue accreditation procedures for IAVSP
  • Delegate responsibilities from the list above to the appropriate members of the administration and staff
Finance
  • Prepare and oversee annual budget
  • Understand the state Chart of Accounts
  • Work with the Business & Operations Manager to oversee all business operations including: billing, budget development, cash flow reports, payroll, retirement plans, health benefit programs, and any other business or personnel issues
  • Inform K12's Director of Finance or designee on all financial matters
  • Work with the Department of Education to ensure per pupil revenue
  • Develop grant opportunities
  • Create timely and accurate submissions for state and federal funding programs (e.g., Title I)
Marketing/PR
  • Promote IAVSP and its interests with political, education, and civic leaders across the state
  • Develop and maintain relationships with districts, area education agencies (AEAs), and the state
  • Work with K12 regional marketing manager to organize and lead student recruitment events across the state
  • Help develop public relations, communications, and marketing plans
Compensation includes competitive salary commensurate with background and experience, and other similar programs, and a benefits package.
