Special Education Coordinator
The Special Education Coordinator oversees the IAVSP special education program. The Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of all policies and procedures related to special education. The Special Education Coordinator will also assist the Program Director with academic policies, procedures, and operations for the entire program.
The Special Education Coordinator will:
- Develop and supervise all special education procedures
- Create and maintain appropriate contacts with districts, area education agencies (AEAs), and state special education leaders
- Develop and disseminate "best practices" for special education in the virtual school program setting
- Train all teachers in special education procedures, focusing on identification
- Implement the use of adaptive technology to meet the needs of our students
- Develop contacts with special education providers in districts
- Design and implement a program-wide pre-referral process
- Recruit, train, and supervise all special education teachers
- Oversee the development and maintenance of all IEPs
- Oversee all program, local, state, and federal compliance reporting
- Alert the Program Director of all changes in local, state, and/or federal special education practices and laws
- Write newsletters about special education for IAVSP publications
- Collect data for internal studies of special education
- Work directly with parents and students (both regular and special education) where necessary
- Ensure that special education students are an integrated part of the program's fabric
- Work through the Program Director with the program's attorney on legal and compliance issues
- Travel, as required, to support students and districts in implementation of special education program
In addition to the above program-specific responsibilities, the Special Education Coordinator may be asked to assist with national K12 efforts including development of policies and procedures, training, and curriculum enhancements.
Requirements:
- Masters in Special Education
- Special Education administrative experience
- Experience with local, state and federal laws and reporting
- 8+ years of Special Education experience
- Great organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in MS Excel, MSWord, and Outlook
- Experience using search engines (Internet) for research projects
- Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Compensation includes competitive salary commensurate with background and
